Crafts Kid Friendly

Edible Jello Slime!

It really is a challenge to find craft activities that are friendly for both my children. One being 3 years and the other is 1 year old (Our home is full of July birthdays). Wyatt puts nearly everything in his mouth.

As every parent knows, slime is a winner for just about any kid. The problem with the little ones is that they will most certainly put it in their mouth and possibly ingest it. If you buy slime at the store there is no way that it should be put into the mouth of your little one.

Thankfully we have other options that are just as fun, if not MORE so because they get to help create it!

A friend of mine recently brought over a kit from the Jello brand to make “unicorn” slime. We tried it out and it was soupier than slime. I checked my pantry and I had some lemon Jello handy so I figured why can’t I just make it myself without the kit? After reviewing many techniques of creating this slime I have found the perfect way to make it!

Two bonuses: It is completely edible AND the most important thing to any parent is that is not a pain in the-you-know-what to clean up!!

I have now had the pleasure to record Adele making some watermelon flavored slime. She had a blast! Enjoy her amazement and you can truly see how easy AND fast it is to make!

All you need is THREE simple ingredients: One box of any flavor Jello, 1 cup cornstarch, and 1/2 cup of warm water.

First, mix dry ingredients together until fully incorporated.

Then add about 1/4 cup of water and begin to mix until the beginning of a paste forms.

Continue to mix the water in little by little until you reach the desired consistency. We did not quite use the full 1/2 cup of water this time. This step will be the most difficult for your little one to stir themselves. I would suggest some adult help here 🙂

Lastly, PLAY!

We noticed that the more you play with it the more dry and dough like it becomes. All you need to do is add a tad bit more water to alleviate this.

I saran wrapped the bowl and left it on the kitchen counter to play with later on in the day. It had hardened up a bit by then. All I did was add a bit more warm water and it was good to go!

Our dog Lucy loves this activity too. I’m thinking it is because of the little spills Adele was leaving behind 😉

Edible Jello Slime

Easy three ingredient slime that is fun for kids of all ages!

Ingredients

  • 1 box any flavor Jello
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup warm water

Instructions

  • Mix together dry ingredients until fully incorporated.
  • Add in about a 1/4 cup of the warm water and mix until a paste begins to form. Slowly add in the water a little at a time until you reach desired consistency.
  • Play and have fun!

Notes

As the slime gets played with it will become more of a dough. In order to alleviate this, just add a bit more warm water until it is slime again.
